Microscopic Analysis of Laser Processed Features

In an effort to deliver the highest standards of quality to our customers, extensive quality assurance tests and close monitoring of each laser converting process are performed in-house at LaserSharp FlexPak Services. To closely examine each laser processed feature, we use specialized microscopes to conduct the necessary analyses and to inspect each feature.

Microscopic technology allows LaserSharp FlexPak Services to ensure high quality laser processed results for flexible packaging films. Whether examining laser perforations or laser score lines, performing microscopic analysis of flexible packaging films immediately reveals the state of each laser processed feature.

Analyzing laser processed results with high quality microscopes allows us to beat the untrained eye and immediately identify and address even the slightest defect. LaserSharp FlexPak Services conducts microscopic analysis with the most advanced microscopic equipment and software available in today’s market. This innovative equipment produces a 500 times magnified image of the laser process and quickly makes the image available for measurement, dimensioning, and visual checks.

With the help of this advanced microscopic equipment, LaserSharp FlexPak Services can examine each small and intricate detail of all laser processes. For example, laser perforation diameters can be qualified, laser score depths and widths can be easily measured, and substrate layers can be clearly distinguished.

To examine these distinct and detailed images, LaserSharp FlexPak Services uses a digital, optical microscope allowing real-time displays or image acquisition in black and white or color. Once the appropriate images are captured, they are measured for length and width dimensions, and then saved to the LaserSharp FlexPak Services database for future review. Upon request, LaserSharp FlexPak Services can retrieve images and send them along for further quality tests or for customer review.

The specialized microscope and optics equipment available at LaserSharp FlexPak Services allows magnification of up to 500 times. Cross-sectional images of the film allow our quality assurance staff to easily identify and analyze the material structure and width of each layer, while precisely measuring the depth of the scored lines. Top view images are also available to clearly identify patterns, perforation arrays, and hole diameters. Additionally, top view images allow our quality assurance team to analyze material texture and the edges of the film in order to identify and correct potential defects.

Microscopic analysis of flexible packaging films is just one of the many in-house services offered by LaserSharp FlexPak Services to ensure quality. Other services such as tensile strength testing and oxygen transmission rate testing are done to ensure that the laser process you request is done precisely and accurately, and to ensure all laser processes are done with the highest level of quality.
